The Municipality of the Township of Gore:
Update on the Sables Compacts sand pit case
Since 2010, despite close to 10 violation notices and non-compliance with the Environment Quality Act (EQA) sent by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight against climate change (MDDELCC), the operator Les Sables Compacts continues to operate the site without a certificate of authorization, and despite the opposition from the Municipality and the population.
Our small Laurentian Municipality had to undertake an injunction in October 2014 against the operator. The activities in Les Sables Compacts' sand pit also cause nuisances for health, the quality of life of the Municipality's population, such as noise, dust, major circulation of heavy trucks.
We would like that the Government put an end to this situation given that the MDDELCC has ordered several times ''the immediate cessation of the activities'' and save our population from the nuisances caused by the activities in the sand pit.
